In context to polymers, it is when molecules are joined together through a condensation reaction and in that process they lose by-product molecules such as methanol and water.

carboxylic

Organic acid with the formula R-CO2H or R–COOH, R referencing to the alkenyl, aryl or alkyl, which holds a carboxyl group connected to an R-group.

alkene

Unsaturated hydrocarbons which hold a double bond.
