Words and meanings to learn
concentration
the amount of a substance (reactant) in a certain volume of solution
activation energy
the minimum amount of energy that particles need to successfully react when they collide
collisions
when particles bump into each other; for a reaction to happen, the collisions must have enough energy, called successful collisions
rate of reaction
how quickly a reaction takes place; it can be measured by how fast reactants are used up or how quickly products are formed
variable
something that can change in an experiment; it could be something you change on purpose (independent variable), something you measure (dependent variable), or something you keep the same (control variable)
