Words and meanings to learn

induced

when a voltage (potential difference) or current is generated in a conductor because it is moved through a magnetic field, or when a magnetic field around the conductor changes

potential difference

the energy transferred per unit charge between two points in a circuit; it is also called voltage and is measured in volts (V)

amplitude

the maximum displacement of a wave from its rest position; it indicates the wave’s energy - a larger amplitude means a more powerful wave

frequency

the number of complete waves (or cycles) that pass a point per second; it is measured in hertz (Hz)

dynamo

a device that converts kinetic energy (motion) into electrical energy using electromagnetic induction; it generates a direct current (DC) when a coil of wire rotates within a magnetic field
