Words and meanings to learn
wasted energy
energy that is not usefully transferred and often spreads out into the surroundings, usually as heat or sound
energy dissipation
the spreading out of energy into the surroundings in a form that is less useful, often as thermal energy, making it difficult to use for further work
efficiency
a measure of how much input energy is usefully transferred by a device or process, given as a percentage
friction
a force that slows down moving objects when two surfaces rub against each other, causing energy to be wasted as heat
useful energy
the energy transferred in a way that helps achieve the device's intended purpose, like light from a bulb or motion from a motor
