a hormone released by the adrenal glands that prepares the body for “fight or flight” by increasing heart rate, breathing rate and blood flow to muscles
receptors
specialised cells or proteins that detect changes in the environment (stimuli) and respond to specific signals, such as changes in temperature or hormone levels
negative feedback
a control mechanism in which a change in a condition triggers responses that reverse the change, keeping the body’s internal environment stable

In her spare time, Samantha enjoys playing the accordion with her local orchestra and has recently taken up cricket.
