aqueous solution
a solution in which water is the solvent; in chemistry, this is denoted by the state symbol (aq), indicating that a substance has dissolved in water
hydroxide
refers to the OH⁻ ion; it is commonly produced when an alkali dissolves in water, forming a solution that releases hydroxide ions
brine
a concentrated aqueous solution of salt, typically sodium chloride dissolved in water
discharge
refers to the process by which ions gain or lose electrons at an electrode, forming neutral atoms or molecules (e.g., metals, hydrogen, halogens)
halide
a negatively charged (–1) ion formed when an element from Group 7 (the halogens) gains an electron; common examples include Cl⁻, Br⁻, and I⁻
