osmosis
The movement of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low concentration to high concentration.
concentration
The amount of a substance in a given volume of solution, usually expressed in terms of mass per unit volume.
membrane
A selective barrier that allows certain substances to pass while blocking others, crucial in osmosis.
diffusion
The process where particles spread from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
turgor pressure
The pressure exerted by water inside the central vacuole of a plant cell against the cell wall.
