Words and meanings to learn
ion
an atom or group of atoms that has lost or gained electrons, giving it a positive or negative electrical charge
ionic bonding
the strong electrostatic attraction between positively charged ions (cations) and negatively charged ions (anions)
lattice
a regular, repeating arrangement of atoms, ions or molecules in a solid
charges
the electrical property of particles, where they can be positive (+), negative (–) or neutral (0)
electrostatic forces
forces of attraction or repulsion between particles because of their electric charges
