Words and meanings to learn

equilibrium

a general state where the concentrations of reactants and products remain constant over time

dynamic equilibrium

occurs in a reversible reaction when the forward and backward reactions happen at the same rate, and the concentrations of reactants and products stay constant, but particles are still reacting

Le Chatelier’s principle

if a change is made to a system at equilibrium, the position of equilibrium shifts to oppose the change and restore balance

pressure

the force exerted by gas particles colliding with container walls; changing pressure affects equilibrium in reactions involving gases

concentration

the amount of a substance in a certain volume; increasing concentration can affect the position of equilibrium
