transverse wave

a wave where the vibrations or movements are at right angles to the direction the wave is travelling

wavelength

the distance between two consecutive peaks (or troughs) in a wave, usually measured in metres

absorb

to take in energy, which can cause changes such as heating the material or exciting electrons

the entire range of electromagnetic waves, from long-wavelength radio waves to short-wavelength gamma rays
