Dietitians are qualified health professionals who use their knowledge of food and nutrition to help people make informed choices about their diet and lifestyle. In the UK, dietitians are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must complete an approved degree in dietetics. Their work involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public-health level. Dietitians may work with patients who have medical conditions such as diabetes, eating disorders, food allergies, kidney disease, or digestive problems. They can be found in hospitals, community settings, schools, research institutions, and private practice. Dietitians also play a key role in public health campaigns and may be involved in creating nutritional guidelines or advising food manufacturers.
