Units and Lessons

In our geography curriculum, each year group contains three units. These are sequenced in a way that builds on prior learning. Each unit includes six lessons. Throughout the unit, your pupils will build knowledge and skills and receive an in-depth exploration of the unit’s topic.

Supporting Documents

Our geography ‘Design and Approach’ document contains a full explanation of the rationale behind the new curriculum. If you’re already subscribed to geography, you can find this document linked within each unit’s homepage. It covers the intent, implementation and impact behind the curriculum and is a really helpful resource to help you get the most from the lessons.

It also shows exactly how we address and cover the National Curriculum objectives within the geography lessons. We know how important it is that the curriculum you choose is thorough and clear in how it reaches these objectives, and this document is here to help you.

Cross-curricular links, literacy, and challenges for pupils

Our geography curriculum contains a lot of writing-based activities, meaning that it is closely linked to literacy. In our lesson plans, we also suggest ways that you can link the lesson to other subjects. For example, in the Year 2 lesson “What would a geographer say about Scotland?”, we suggest that pupils are taught some traditional ceilidh dancing in PE sessions. Links like this help to broaden your pupils’ perspectives.
