KS4 AQA Units: Structure and Bonding & Cell Biology

We’re pleased to launch two brand-new KS4 science units aligned with the AQA GCSE Trilogy specification: Structure and Bonding and Cell Biology. Both are designed for flexible learning, with sequenced lessons that build on prior learning and strengthen students’ scientific enquiry skills.

Structure and Bonding

This chemistry unit helps students explain the physical and chemical properties of substances through the lens of atomic structure and bonding. Students explore ionic, covalent and metallic bonds, connecting particle-level theories to observable properties such as melting point, conductivity and flexibility. Real-world applications, including nanotechnology and materials science, show how chemists use bonding knowledge to engineer new materials and solve practical challenges.

Cell Biology

In this biology unit, students investigate the cell as the basic unit of life, exploring how genes control cell function and how mitosis supports growth and repair. Practical microscope work and model-based activities bring specialised cells and stem cell applications to life, highlighting links to medicine, biotechnology and agriculture.
