Instructor Guidance

Slide 1: Welcome to Module 5 – Moving Forward

You’ve worked hard so far, and now it’s important to take a moment to reflect on your progress. Use this time to celebrate what you’ve achieved and think about the next steps you want to take. Reflecting helps you recognize your growth and plan how to continue moving forward with confidence and purpose.

Slide 2: Reflection – What Have You Learned?

Prompt learners to reflect by asking, “Think back to Module 1. What’s changed for you?” Provide a Progress Tracker handout where they can rate their confidence in areas like CV writing and interview skills on a scale from 1 to 5. After completing the tracker, have learners pair up to share and discuss their reflections.

Slide 3: Reflection

Reflection helps us recognize our growth and focus our energy on what’s next. As John Dewey said, “We do not learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.” To illustrate, the trainer might share a personal example: “At the start, I didn’t know what a CV was, and now I’ve written one!”

Slide 4: Activity – CV Showcase and Peer Feedback

Have learners display their CVs on desks or walls for an optional gallery walk. Provide a feedback form asking for one thing done well and one suggestion for improvement. If possible, the trainer should offer individual reviews to support learners in refining their CVs.

Slide 5: Interview Readiness Checklist

Provide a handout with a tick list covering key areas such as having a CV, understanding how to use the STAR method, knowing where to find jobs, and being able to answer common interview questions. Lead a group discussion by asking learners, “Which of these do you feel strongest on?” to encourage self-assessment and confidence-building.

Slide 6: Career Pathway

A career pathway is the journey you take to reach your goals—it can be direct or have twists and turns along the way. Show a simple flowchart illustrating possible steps, such as training, volunteering, and then a job. Then ask learners, “Where are you on your path?” to encourage reflection on their own progress.

Slide 7: Activity – My Next 3 Steps

Provide learners with a handout prompting them to write:

  • “My goal is…”
  • “My next step is…”
  • “I will do it by…”

Encourage them to focus on practical actions, such as applying for a specific job, contacting a support service, or updating their CV. Then, have learners check in with a peer and ask, “Does this sound realistic and clear?” to ensure their plans are achievable and well-defined.

Slide 8: Employability Services & Job Boards

The trainer introduces local and online resources tailored to the learners’ needs, such as Jobcentre Plus, local careers hubs, popular online job boards like Indeed and Reed, and volunteering networks. A signposting sheet is provided, containing contact information and website links to help learners access these support services easily.

Slide 9: Summary – What’s Next for You?

Go around the group and ask each learner to share, “One thing I’ll do after this course is…” Celebrate their progress with positive affirmations to boost confidence and motivation. Optionally, distribute certificates or CV completion badges to recognize their achievements.

Impact & Assessment Opportunities

Plenary

Wrap up by asking each learner to share one action they’ll take next. Celebrate their progress and effort. Hand out certificates or badges if possible. Remind them of ongoing support from employability services and encourage them to keep using available resources.
