As a result, scientists were then suggesting a different model for the structure of atoms, which they called a plum-pudding model. The plum-pudding model said that an atom was a ball of positive charge with negative electrons embedded in it. Other scientists argued that if an atom contained negative electrons, there must also be other particles with an equal positive charge to make the atom neutral. This led to the development of the plum-pudding model.
