In the particle model of diffusion, we think of the particles in a substance as tiny balls that are constantly moving and bouncing into each other. Over time, the particles in a gas or a liquid move from an area of high concentration (where there are a lot of particles close together) to an area of low concentration (where there are fewer particles spread out).
